Mervielde strengthens market position with strategic acquisition of Tanktransport Vereecke

26 May 2025

Mervielde expands its market share in the transport of chemical liquids with the acquisition of Tanktransport Vereecke, based in Evergem. Both companies are active in the transport of chemical liquids, although both specialize in various niches and are therefore complementary.

The acquisition of the Evergem-based family business Vereecke fits within the growth path that Mervielde has been pursuing for years. The history of both companies is quite similar. The first generation at Vereecke also started transporting with horse and cart. While Mervielde first transported agricultural products, Vereecke focused on wood and coal. Since the 1960s, both companies have focused on the transport of liquids.

'We have known Vereecke for years; we operate in the same region, and this has always been done with mutual respect. When the Vereecke family indicated they wanted to pass the torch, we saw this as an opportunity to further expand,' said Patrick Mervielde, Managing Director of Mervielde.

Tanktransport Vereecke will continue to operate as a separate transport entity within Mervielde after the acquisition, just like Transport Van Heesvelde. The employees will continue to serve customers under the familiar Vereecke banner. Where possible, synergies and collaborations between the entities will be explored and utilized.

'We are delighted to transfer our family business to the like-minded family business Mervielde. We share the same DNA when it comes to respect for our people and excellent service for our customers. That's why we believe in this acquisition. Our people and our customers are in good hands,' said Kathleen and Nico Vereecke, Managing Directors of Tanktransport Vereecke.
