About us

Driven by heart.
Powered by innovation.
Guided by vision...
That’s how we flow!

What began in 1945 with Cyriel Mervielde and a horse and cart in Meetjesland has grown over 80 years into a leading logistics player in North Sea Port. Today, the third generation – Patrick and Koen – is at the helm of a dynamic family business focused on sustainable growth, innovation and customized service.

Mervielde has evolved from a local transporter into a versatile logistics company with strong expertise in tank transport. Strategic acquisitions such as Transport Van Heesvelde, Transport T.V.T. and Tanktransport Vereecke have strengthened our market position and expanded our services.

Driven by our people and supported by years of experience, we continue to build the future – with respect for our roots and a clear vision for the future.

Let our story
carry you away

Milestones of Mervielde:
building sustainable logistics together

1945

1945

The transport company Mervielde is founded by Cyriel Mervielde. He collects milk from farmers in and around Waterland-Oudeman with a horse and cart. A few years later comes the purchase of Belle, the first typically red truck used to transport milk churns, flax, grain and other agricultural products.

1960s–1970s

1960s–1970s

Cyriel’s three sons – Carlos, Wilfried and Roland – join the business.

The purchase of the first tanker trucks marks the switch to liquids. Mervielde expands with more tanker trucks and its first non-related drivers. Assignments for clients such as Palmafina, BP and Fina mark the beginning of long-term partnerships that continue to this day.

1979

1979

The company moves from Waterland-Oudeman to Rieme, in the port of Ghent and close to the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal.

1980s

1980s

After settling into the office and workshop in Rieme, the Mervielde family builds a new tank cleaning facility in 1985. Both our own vehicles and the tanks of other transport companies can be cleaned there.

The first tank container is purchased to meet customer demand for temporary storage of liquids.

1990s

1990s

Growth defines Mervielde in the 1990s. A water treatment plant, new offices, a modern workshop and a new tank cleaning facility are added. There is an increased focus on sustainability and safety and in 1993, Mervielde obtains its first ISO certificate for quality.

1996

1996

Mervielde takes over Transport Van Heesvelde. The third generation enters the business as Patrick, Wilfried’s son, becomes managing director of Transport Van Heesvelde.

2003

2003

Mervielde takes over Transport Van Heesvelde. The third generation enters the business as Patrick, Wilfried’s son, becomes managing director of Transport Van Heesvelde.

2000s–2010s

2000s–2010s

During the 2000s and 2010s, Mervielde expands significantly, both in infrastructure and logistics activities. More land is purchased and developed, a new digital transport system is implemented, and thanks to the investment in a new access road, lorry traffic is diverted away from the village centre.

In 2005, the company obtains the SQAS assessment– the international quality standard for both the transport and storage of chemical goods and for cleaning activities.

From 2011, cousins Patrick and Koen jointly lead the family business.

2016

2016

Mervielde acquires Transport T.V.T., adding the transport of technical fats and oils to its activities.

2019-2025

2019-2025

Mervielde develops a Seveso site along the Ghent–Terneuzen Canal. On this new 85,000 m² site, everything comes together: storage, transshipment, filling, heating, distribution. The location provides extensive logistics opportunities for both current and future activities.

2025

2025

With the acquisition of Tanktransport Vereecke, specialized in transporting solvents and acids, Mervielde grows once again. In 2024, Margaux – Patrick’s daughter – joins the family business as the fourth generation and she will gradually take over daily management of Vereecke.

2025

2025

The Seveso site along the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal is expanding with the construction of a new reception and administrative office.
