80 Years Mervielde: 10 students supported thanks to our donation to Fonds LISA
With the celebration of 80 years of Mervielde, we wanted not only to look back on the past but also to invest in the future. To this end, we supported Fonds LISA, a non-profit organization that helps young people successfully complete their higher education, even when circumstances are not straightforward.
Almost one year later, we assessed the impact our anniversary donation has had on Fonds LISA.
Creating opportunities for ambitious students
Fonds LISA was founded in 2014 based on a clear conviction: talent must not be lost due to financial or personal circumstances over which students have little control.
In the past academic year, the fund guided 85 students on their path to a diploma. The focus is not just on financial support but, above all, on a personal approach that helps students persevere with their studies and complete them.
More than financial support
The contribution of €15,115 that Fonds LISA received on the occasion of Mervielde's 80th anniversary made it possible to provide extra support to ten students this academic year. The entire contribution went directly to the students.
Depending on the individual situation, support is provided for, among other things, tuition fees, study materials, books, internships and other necessary costs associated with a study programme.
In addition, Fonds LISA also offers practical guidance. Volunteers help students with administrative procedures, applying for study grants, contacts with government agencies and other challenges that often cause extra pressure during the study period.
An important part of the process is personal guidance by a buddy. This buddy has an affinity with the student's field of study and acts as a mentor and confidant. Students can turn to them with questions about the study programme, but also with broader concerns or challenges.
This combination of financial support, practical guidance and personal coaching creates sustainable support that helps students shape their own future.
Kato*, a communication student, explains what this means to her: ‘Fonds LISA supports me so that I get the chance, just like other students, to purchase the necessary study materials and, for example, participate in internship trips. I can also turn to my LISA mentor for questions, support or just a chat. Many people don’t stop to think about how many financial and other barriers there are when you want to start higher education.’

Making a difference for the future together
Supporting ten extra students means: offering ten young people the chance to obtain a degree and build a future with that knowledge and experience.
On behalf of Mervielde, we would like to thank everyone who contributed to our anniversary campaign. Thanks to this collective support, these students receive the much-needed boost to realize their ambitions.
