Drivers at Mervielde and Transport Van Heesvelde save 704 tons of CO₂ with ecodriving
At Mervielde and Transport Van Heesvelde, we are committed to realise more sustainable and efficient transport every day. One of the initiatives with which we contribute to sustainability is ecodriving – a smart driving style that significantly reduces our fuel consumption and drastically lowers CO₂ emissions. Thanks to more conscious driving behaviour of our drivers and continuous optimisation, we make a measurable difference.
What is ecodriving?
Ecodriving is an economical and environmentally conscious driving style that reduces fuel consumption and emissions by accelerating smoothly, shifting up in good time, driving with anticipation and maintaining a constant speed. This saves costs, increases road safety and helps the environment.
Together with DrivOlution, Mervielde has set up a training programme to support tanker drivers in driving more economically and environmentally consciously.
DrivOlution monitors six important driving parameters and then optimises them together with the drivers:
- Fuel consumption – Less consumption means less emissions and lower costs.
- Speed – Constant speed helps save fuel.
- Braking behaviour – Gentle and anticipatory braking prevents unnecessary consumption.
- Idling – Reducing unnecessary turning saves fuel.
- Use of cruise control – Helps with a more efficient driving style.
- Anticipatory driving – Looking ahead prevents abrupt actions and saves energy.
Together with DrivOlution towards measurable impact
In 2024, compared to the start of our collaboration with DrivOlution in the summer of 2022, we will have saved 221,248 litres of fuel, which represents a 6.36% reduction in the fuel consumption of our fleet. As a result, we have avoided 704 tonnes of CO₂ emissions. In addition to the ecological benefits, these results also ensure lower operational costs and a more efficient transport process.
"DrivOlution demonstrated that small changes in driving behaviour can have a big impact. By focusing on awareness and training, we have been ble to achieve these first tangible results, which we can continue to work with," explained Peter De Vos, member of management at Mervielde.
Sustainability, that’s how we flow!
